Jeanette L. “Jean” Kafer
Jeanette L. “Jean” Kafer, age 84, of Green Lake, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 16, 2024.
She was born October 4, 1939, in Green Lake, WI, the daughter of Walter and Agatha Schoemperlen Knutzen. Jean was a 1957 graduate of Berlin High School. She was united in marriage to Wayne Grota and later, to Leonard Kafer.
Jean was a legal secretary in Milwaukee before moving to the area and becoming a realtor for Action Agency in Ripon. Later in life she worked in the office for Flash Trucking in Green Lake. Jean also enjoyed farming with Leonard in Winnebago County and volunteering at Berlin Senior Center. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon.
She is survived by her son, Todd (Jennifer) Grota; granddaughter, Erica Grota (Joe Mahler); and nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Richard Knutzen and Charles “Chuck” Knutzen.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev.
