Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Opps, age 72, of the Township of Berlin, died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh.
She was born June 29, 1952, in Waukesha, WI, the daughter of Edward and Murial Garoutte Gake. Betty was a 1970 graduate of Waukesha High School and attended UW-Whitewater. On September 18, 1976, she was united in marriage to Gerald Opps in Waukesha.
Betty worked in the healthcare field as a CNA. She loved spending time with her family and riding her golf cart through the garden.
Florence Edna Broderick, age 86, of Berlin, died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Patriot Place in Berlin.
She was born January 29, 1939, in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of John and Edith Newton Abhold. Florence attended Clintonville High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UW-Stevens Point. Additionally, she received an LPN certificate from Moraine Park Technical College.
Florence grew up in Clintonville and Tigerton. Early in her lifetime, she operated an upholstery business and made wedding cakes. Florence also worked at, managed and owned several restaurants, enjoyed sewing costumes and gowns, spending time in the library reading and researching genealogy. For 36 years, Florence dedicated her life to nursing in the health care field and cared for the elderly. Throughout her life she spent every free moment enjoying her passion for the outdoors and camping. Florence volunteered at Salvation Army in several communities.
Willard Arthur “Bill” Maki, age 87, of Berlin, formerly of Waupaca, died peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
He was born January 24, 1938, in Ironwood, MI, the son of Arvid and Mary Barton Maki. Bill attended high school in West Allis. On September 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Mueller in Waukesha.
Bill was a head custodian for Wautoma Schools, plus did maintenance and yard work at American Baptist Assembly (ABA) in Green Lake. He enjoyed traveling, classic cars and watching car shows, including NASCAR. Alongside of him were his two favorite canine companions, Buddy, his little black Poodle and Lady, his black Labrador.
Sharyl Ruth Crump, age 75, of Berlin, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
She was born December 29, 1949, in Oshkosh, WI, to Derald and Ruth Laiten Parsons, one of three girls. Sharyl was baptized and confirmed at North Rushford Methodist Church. She was a 1968 graduate of Omro High School. On August 11, 1979, she was united in marriage to Ken Crump at Berlin United Methodist Church.
Sharyl was employed at Badger Mining Corporation for 45 years. She would tell anyone she was one of the luckiest people because she had the best job in the world. After retirement, she was blessed to find a part-time job at Chier Law Office in Berlin. Sharyl was a member of WE Community Church in Waukau.
Eva Mae Astrach, age 92, of Berlin, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Patriot Place.
She was born August 10, 1932, in the Township of Marquette, WI, the daughter of John and Iona Mlodzik Guderski. Eva Mae was a 1950 graduate of Markesan High School. On June 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to John Astrach in Markesan.
Eva Mae worked for many years at Realist (David White) in Berlin before working at Speed Queen (Alliance Laundry) in Ripon for 30 years, retiring at age 80. She loved to crochet and looked forward to playing Bingo and cards frequently with her “gal group”. Eva Mae enjoyed fishing, especially for bluegill. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin.
James Michael “Jimmy” Boyson Jr., age 79, of Tustin, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, surrounded by his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was born April 13, 1946, in Berlin, WI, the son of James and Agnes Manning Boyson. He served in the U.S. Army. On July 14, 1967, he was united in marriage to Catherine Laux.
Jimmy was a volunteer fireman on the Tustin Fire Department and later served as Fire Chief for fourteen years. He worked at Michels Materials for many years and was a man known for his sense of humor and dedication to work. Jimmy loved going deer hunting at his cabin and spending time with family on the pontoon boat. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139.
Joseph Paul Huron, age 91, of Wautoma, formerly of Las Vegas, died peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
He was born May 27, 1933, in Allegheny, County, PA, the son of George and Mary Kishaw Huron. Joe was a graduate of Perry Traditional High School in Pittsburgh.
Joe worked as an electrical technician in TV and repair at Banner T.V. in Milwaukee and also did monitoring of bomb testing through EG&G at the Nevada Test Site. He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, going for walks in nearby parks and the casinos, also dabbling in the stock market.
Ciriaco “Cirilo” Macedo Perez, age 63, of Berlin, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin. He was born August 8, 1961, in Mexico, the son of Manuel Macedo Pagaza. He was united in marriage to Maria Elena Cortez in Mexico. Cirilo came to the United States 25 years ago. He worked for many years at Berlin Family Restaurant. Cirilo loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and especially loved making dinner for them every Thursday night. He was Catholic by faith.
Darla Jean Weber, age 79, of Ripon, formerly of Berlin, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Whispering Pines Nursing & Rehab in Ripon.
She was born December 28, 1945, in New London, WI, the daughter of Bert and Margaret Blackburn Arthurs. Darla attended Wautoma High School. On August 20, 2005, she was united in marriage to Donald Weber at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Big Mecan.
In addition to cleaning homes, Darla worked as a custodian for 13 years at Berlin Memorial Hospital, plus various other locations in the area, including Berlin Chapman Co., Berlin Laundry, Butch’s Bakery, Grace English Lutheran Church, Lake States Footwear, Realist and Rippin Good Cookie. She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Ripon.
Keith Allen Phelps, age 60, of Berlin, formerly of Redgranite, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton.
He was born January 12, 1965, in Wild Rose, WI, the son of Lawrence and Alice Leone Phelps. Keith was a 1983 graduate of Wautoma High School.
Keith worked for D & D Amusement as a machine repair and delivery man. He had been a member of the band “Jesse and the Boys”, playing guitar. Music was always an important part of his life, participating in the choir and Swing Choir in high school, which he lettered, and also performed at the Wisconsin State Fair. Keith enjoyed bowling, playing darts and watching NASCAR. He could very often be found riding his Harley Fat Boy and was part of the pit crew mechanics for Bob Rhode Truck Pulling team.
Raona O’Kon, age 80, of Redgranite, died peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin.
She was born February 24, 1944, in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Louis and Luella Buck Joubert. On September 21, 1961, she was united in marriage to Kenneth O’Kon in Berlin. Raona worked for Sand Knit in Berlin and River Marina. She was Catholic by faith.
Ruth E. Schumacher, age 92, of Redgranite, died peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Omro Care Center.
She was born June 12, 1931, in Racine, WI, the daughter of Andrew and Gertrude Schnetter. Ruth was a graduate of Washington Park High School. In her early years, Ruth taught dance in Racine. She and her husband, David, spent nearly 30 years living in Australia before moving to Redgranite.
Doris Grace Tews Sattler, age 92, of Poy Sippi, WI, was called to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 18, 2024, at Harvest Home Assisted Living in Grafton, WI.
She was born May 7, 1931, in Southington, CT, the daughter of Gustav and Martha Sonstrom Tews. Doris was made a child of God through holy baptism at St. Matthias Lutheran Church in New Britain, CT, on June 7, 1931. She was confirmed in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Southington on May 20, 1945. Doris grew up with five sisters and loved sharing stories about her childhood.
